3D VISUALIZATIONS AND INTERACTIVE EXPLORATION APPLICATIONS – “MUMMIES: PRESERVED BODIES, ETERNAL BODIES” EXHIBITION
IMA Solutions carried out the acquisition by X-ray tomography of 6 mummies presented in the exhibition “Mummies: preserved bodies, eternal bodies” 2022 of the Museum of Natural History of Toulouse.
3 Egyptian mummies, 2 South American mummies, a monitor lizard mummy and a natural gecko mummy.
These acquisitions were then processed in order to transform the DICOM sections into 3D models allowing the exterior but also interior visualization of the mummies after segmentation of the data.
The data from these 6 mummies give rise to 6 interactive exploration applications allowing these mummies to be virtually unwrapped. The applications offer the possibility of removing the layers one by one (opening the sarcophagus, removing the cardboard boxes, stripping, exploring the amulets, exploring the remaining muscle tissue, etc.) until reaching the skeleton.
The visualizations also gave rise to two video projections that you can find in the exhibition.
